Default Muzzleloader Deer survey

I heard a lot of shots last weekend and it got me thinking. Of those shots how many are on deer and how many are deer down.

I went with 60%

I've shot at deer 3 times with a muzzle loader and I have mis.... miss.... not gotten a deer once out of those 3.

Not a lot of samples from me on my vote but I'm 2 for 2. Both deer real close.

I've only fired a ML at deer 3x. 2 misses and dropped one in her tracks. The 2 misses both came years ago when I was a young hunter, I'd like to think at least one if not both of them would be dead if I had the same opportunities now.

Last saturday, opening day of NH ML, I shot 3 times - first was a miss, second was to put my buddy's doe down, and the third (actually this was on Sunday) I shot in the shoulder at 10 feet a spike and it ended up running in front of someone else who shot it in the hoof which caused it to fall and he tagged it before I caught up to it.

3 shots, 2 dead deer and I still have my tag!

I do not think you can get an accurate number to your question, though I often wonder the same thing.

Thinking in retrospect, I have shot and killed one deer with the muzzleloader. It was a button buck on private land in Connecticut. I shot at one deer twice in Massachusetts but missed with mt TC Hawken.

I looked at some of my records and made a slight discovery. Most of the deer I have seen and shot were in the first two to three weeks of November. A handful in September during early bow. Some more in October but most of the action was in November.

December has proven to be quite dead for me. I have shot two deer in the month of December in the past 30 years of hunting. It seems that after the first week of the shotgun season everything goes down hill significantly.

I went with 80%. I don't know for sure but that's about right. I've shot 2 still hunting, both standing shots and the rest from tree stands so I get high percentage shots.
