I like to hunt clearcuts till they're 2 yrs old. After that I see lots less game till the get to be 7-8 yrs old. Then there too grown up with hardwood suckers to see anything anyway.
2 ways to make it to the top....climb that oak tree....or sit on an acorn an wait.

People seem to love em or hate em. I like to get up high and watch a clearcut thats grown in for about 6-7 years. Thats when the deer really start to travel them good. I do prefer flowages to clearcuts down where I hunt now.

I like older cuts between 5 and ten years old. I don't usually hunt in them, but stick to the edges where trails lead in and out. Older cuts often serve a dual purpose as bedding and feeding areas. Sometimes it's possible to hunt right in the cut, if you can find a higher piece of ground overlooking a couple of twitching trails. Just have to be careful not to spook the deer while making your way in........pay attention to the wind and go very, very SLLOOOWWW!

I love the cuts, especially the edges and strips between them.I find the back end of them to be the best usually there is a swamp or a brook that defines the border.Ron
