Ok, now that i've started to learn how to scan I'm going to share the 12pt buck story and pictures with you.

Opening morning 1995. Terrible rain and thunder due to a storm that had been creeping up the east coast. I had contemplated not even going out. Temps were about 50-60 degrees, wind around 30mph and steady rain. I put on my golf rain gear to help keep somewhat dry and an orage vest and ball cap.

Got to my stand, an eight foot homemade stand at day break. At around 7:30 I peak to my left and see this big boy strolling down the hardwood ridge about 65 yards to my left. This was my first day hunting with a scope, bad choice on a rainy day. I had managed to somehow keep it dry and was able to zero in on the front shoulder. The 30-30 was ready to rock. Fired once and the deer took off, I didn't realize how big he was until he was running down the hill. He went about 100 yards, just far enough to make me wonder if he was hit.

The statistics say he weighed 201 lbs and the antlers grossed 161.75 inches, net score of 158.75. 12 pointer, perfect category, scored by Al Corson.

Great deer and story Janc!!!! You could still get him shoulder mounted if you wanted. You just need to get a cape for him. Your taxidermist can probably get you one for around $100. You could also get one much cheaper from one of the local deer butchers during the season. Many people shoot larger bucks and just mount the horns like you or don't use the capefor whatever reason. Just let him know you are looking for one that is large at the beginning of the year and I bet he will come up with one for you. http://www.huntingchat.net/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_biggrin.gif

great buck Janc. It's great to read stories like that. Reminds us that even on the real crappy days it can happen. Congrats.

I shot a nice 8 about 15 years ago and the exit wound ruined the cape. The Taxidermist I used always buys capes and he sold me a beauty with the same neck size for about $75. It may not be the hair my deer was wearing the day I shot him but he sure looks good up there on the wall. Nice rack on your deer, I'd want some hair around it one of these days if I was you!!

By the way the deer was shot in Solon, ME.

It's kinda sad, the antlers are hanging in the living room of my house but they serve as a hat rack more than anything.....

Nice cocker man!!! I love the mass on it's head. I love Solon too. I camp there alot as I fish the Kennebec alot. Planing on buying a peice of land there for a future hunting/fishing camp.

Nice buck..
